Amping, Ampo, Apo in Cebuano translates to 'Take Care, Pray, My Grandchild ' which is constant advice from my grandmother.
The Amping, Ampo, Apo Activity Kit was honored with the prestigious Blue Mango Award 2024 in the Social Impact and Community Building category. The award was presented on December 21, 2024, during the Creative Cebu Year-Ender celebration.

The Blue Mango Awards, named after the imaginary “Blue Mango” symbolizing creativity and imagination, honors exceptional innovation and artistry across diverse creative fields. Now a key component of SiKad-Cebu Culture Arts and Design Festival, the awards celebrates boundless creativity and innovation across the creative industries in Visayas and highlight Cebu’s role as a hub for world-class creativity and collaboration. ABOUT THE PROJECT
Modernization and technology reduce interactions between generations leading to loneliness and social isolation among the elderly. There is also limited attention given to the impact of social connectedness in senior and adolescent well-being.
How do we encourage Filipino adolescents, ages 12-16, to interact and be more connected with their senior family members?
THE IDEA
Amping, Ampo, Apo kit (storybook, conversation cards, activity booklet) fosters intergenerational bonding through light-hearted visuals and activities, encouraging emotional connection across generations in a natural, engaging way.

The lighthearted association between grandparents and their repurposed containers is the insight for the kit's packaging.
The brand Identity of the kit follows the intimate and heart-warming tone of the intervention's purpose. The visual assets are things associated with Filipino grandparents since some don't want to be depicted with canes or wheelchairs. Avoiding ageism in the visuals is a significant design consideration for this project.
The most effective way of building relationships involving different generations is to share activities and to spend time together. (Santini, 2018)

In potential partnership with the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) the intergenerational kit may be used as a resource for Elderly Filipino Week and the Intergen Program.

As a society that is built on multigenerational households, Amping, Ampo, Apo as a creative intervention shows how visual communication can leave an impact not just on large-scale but also in real tangible ways for Filipino families.
